The Honest Answer
If you are a new business or a small service business, a full multi-page website might not be your first priority. What you absolutely need is something online that you own — not just a Facebook page or an Instagram account.
Social media accounts can get suspended, their algorithms change constantly, and you do not control how they display your information. A domain name you own, pointing to even a simple page, is an asset that belongs to your business.
What "Something You Own" Looks Like
At minimum, you need a domain name (yourbusiness.com) pointing to something useful:
- A single landing page with your name, what you do, hours, phone number, and a way to contact you
- For restaurants: a digital menu that customers can view on their phones
- For service businesses: a one-page site with your services, service area, and contact form
- A QR code page that connects your physical marketing to online information
When You Need a Full Website
- You sell products online and need a shopping cart
- You need to accept appointments or reservations online
- You have multiple services that each need their own page to explain
- You are competing against businesses that all have professional websites
- You want to run Google Ads, which require a landing page
When a Simpler Option Works Fine
- You are a new business and need to get found online fast
- You are a food truck or pop-up that just needs a menu and hours visible
- You get most business from referrals and need a "proof of legitimacy" page
- Your budget is tight and advertising is a higher priority than web design
